An Artisan Stand

It was that time of the month again; time for the art show. Countless stalls were set up along the few dirt roads of the village, and people were hustling and bustling about, wasting their money on things they may or may not actually need. One stall in particular was run by an older man named Gus, who was selling many things from wooden staves, walking sticks, bird houses, windchimes, and other household decorations. While he generally had many customers, none seemed to be showing up today. Its a shame, he spent alot of time making these.

That this little town had an artshow was, in its own way, wildly exciting -- it wasn't enough to simply bask in the refined radiance of the city. The drive of humanity, in Delphine's opinion, was to create. And you could see here a different flow of ideas, a current that existed and honed within itself... So Delphine, having rested up from that exhausting miracle from before, had given herself permission to explore it properly. She dallied over stalls and considered items, pondering about this carefully woven basket or that charming piece of ceramic... Before the blue-haired woman stopped and considered this woodcarving stall -- a light breeze picked up, carrying with it the deep green scent of the forest, and blowed through some of his windchimes. The hollow clinking pulled her closer as she inspected the pieces, her hands carefully folded behind her back. "Hmmm...These are rather nice, aren't they?"(edited)

"Ah, yes, very nice. I believe them to be some of my best works, no?" responded the man. His voice was surprisingly quick for his age, typical of a vendor or auctioneer. "I assure you they're of the highest quality," he nodded once.

LadyDeme-Last Monday at 7:03 PM

"Oh, yeah?" Delphine tilted her head, catching to that tone -- a hustler, it sounded like. It'd be a curious thing to keep track of -- and a sign she should make any purchase right away. She looked down at one of the birdhouses, looking at the carved decorations. "And yet, no one's looking at this but an outsider like me... It's kind of sad, really... Do you make them all yourself?"(edited)

"Y'know, miss, I've been running this here stall solo for over 25 years. I've probably made more money than all of these other stalls combined. Its just a slow business day, I promise you," he looked around, "You could probably ask anyone and they'd review my products positively."

LadyDeme-Last Monday at 7:53 PM

"That's a long time to have been at this, but I think it shows. I'd hope for your sake business has otherwise been good lately. I mean, I can if you'd like me to take you up on that idea..." She offered, as she herself looked around the stalls. If she caught someone's eye with hers, she'd give them a little nod, before turning back towards the stall itself. "But right now, I'm a little more interested in your work itself. Is there something in here you like the most?"

"That's a thoughie," he thought for a moment, analyzing all of his works, "I suppose these braceletes came out much better than I had ever hoped for them too." He lifts up one of several beaded braceletes, each bead, a small cut of wood with various designs and colors. All of them were held together by a single string, which ran through the center of each bead.

LadyDeme-Last Tuesday at 3:14 PM

"Ah, that is very pretty," She said, reaching out a hand towards it cautiously. The beads had a wide variety of designs to then, and she wasn't sure she could identify a theme. Still, something with that ecclectic style suited her -- and at some point in the past, she would have bought it without a second thought. "They really are lovely..." Here, she weighed it carefully, considering what the difference would make to the army (though she did have some private funds, especially due to their recent Arcian stop -- her grandfather had been weathering the rebellion with the sort of quiet wait-and-see that his family was known for, and was largely intact)... But after a while, also to the man. She gently rotated the bead, letting its fernlike pattern cycle back on itself. Once, when she'd been small, she hadn't really understood how the pattern repeated, as if it was something else when she couldn't see it, or it was smaller or larger than she thought. She couldn't explain it now, but it gave her a hint of melancholy. The world had seemed different than it had turned out to be. "... What's this market usually like?"(edited)

Mappy | Best Dog-Last Tuesday at 6:07 PM

"Usually its not quite as lively as this," he had to admit, looking around the streets once more, "There sure are alot of people in your group, eh?" He looked down the street, seeing many unfamiliar faces, but at the same time, alot of recognizeable ones. The number was certaintly usually smaller; perhaps all of these soldiers caused more people to set up shop in hopes of a quick profit?

LadyDeme-Last Tuesday at 6:17 PM

"Yeah, we're probably a noisy bunch -- we probably disrupt things in a lot of places we end up... Still, as many as we are... I can't help but worry we're all heading to our deaths, but you know," She laughed at that, looking at the full crowd. That was probably something of a relief then, even if it'd altered the flow of things somewhat. During bad times, people could get a little overcautious, after all -- and that might be worse than being opportunists. (She wondered, just in the turn of her head back, if everything really was fine back home. And she hadn't needed to see any of it.) "You said these turned out better than expected... That's an interesting way of putting it. How much is it?" She asked, idly turning that one ferny bead.(edited)

Mappy | Best Dog-Last Tuesday at 6:30 PM

"Mmm, usually I charge around 250 gold pieces or so," he answered, looking down at a small sheet, listing his prices. Things like this are easy to forget in his old age. "Its quite the deal, if I say so myself; though, since you're one of my first customers today, I'm feeling generous. Let's call it at 175?"

LadyDeme-Last Tuesday at 6:40 PM

"Ah, that really is generous, isn't it? I'll be happy to help stimulate the local economy then!" At that price, it didn't seem like it'd be too frivolous to spend on something pretty, after all. In the city, even something like that could go for a lot more. She picked the coins from her coinpurse and set them down on the counter.

Mappy | Best Dog-Last Tuesday at 6:42 PM

Gus nods his head, taking the gold pieces into his hand, surprisingly not shaky for his old age, "Thank you very much, I appreciate it," he gave a gentle smile. [Delphine obtains the Bead Bracelet]

LadyDeme-Last Tuesday at 6:53 PM

"No problem. I hope the day picks up for you." She slipped it onto her wrist, rotating her hand this way and that to let her examine it against her pale skin; finding a bead with a familiar blue flower carved onto it, she turned it towards the inside of her wrist, against the tendon that stood in the hollow of her bones. She considered this a pretty decent shopping trip, though something did occur to her to ask: the most important question to ask in a new town, in her opinion. "Before I go, since you've been here a while... What's the good scenary or gossip around here?"(edited)

Mappy | Best Dog-Last Tuesday at 7:02 PM

"I'd very much recommend taking a walk along the Sacred Lake. For many its a once in a lifetime experience," he pointed east, "Just head that way for about 10 minutes and you'll be there." "As for gossip, there's not much to talk about in a small town like this, you know?"

LadyDeme-Last Tuesday at 7:56 PM

"Thank you, then!" The sacred lake... It'd be such a strange experience. Looking across it from the other side. Most of Floribar was right up against it -- what wasn't was desert, pretty much, with only a little that ran in-between the two. She turned and gave the man a small wave. "Perhaps we'll stay here long enough that another one of these will roll around, and I'll see you again!"

Mappy | Best Dog-Last Tuesday at 9:05 PM

He nodded, silently, allowing her to leave whenever she was done examining any other wares she was interested in.
