Awkward Chocolate

Coming away from a vendor, Artemis sighed. King Simon is too caught up with Celanthus to worry about Floribar. She bit into one of the chocolate strawberries she'd bought, carrying the bag in her other hand, feeling the tome at her waist. At the very least...his highness gave me this tome. Even though I only did what was expected of me on the battlefield. She frowned a bit at the bitterness of the the chocolate, Whoops...bought dark chocolate...still chocolate is chocolate.

Valerie was coming from the arena, having just done a couple of close battles. She decided not to press her luck any further with how close they were and decided to head back to the barracks to just relax and unwind after the battles. She had also visited some magical person, though she didn't quite know what they had done after they paid her. Regardless of her splurges, on her way back to the barracks, she wound up moving past someone that seemed familiar from the battle; one of the mages. However, Valerie did her best to just kind of slip on by... at least until some large sailor bumped the small Valerie into Artemis on accident.

"A-ah!" Stumbling back and onto the ground, the thunder mage lost her grip on the the half-eaten strawberry, her hood falling down, revealing her white hair to the sun. "H-hey!" Thankfully, Artemis still had a grip on her regular bag of strawberries but she frowned, looking over to who had bumped into her. "You should watch where you're going in the future." She pointed out, standing up as she dusted off her cloak, "...you're in his highness' group, correct?"(edited)

Uh oh. As soon as Artemis started to seemingly scold Valerie for the accident, the woman took a few steps back, motioning her arms like she didn't do it. "I-it wasn't me! I was bumped into you!" She explained back in a hasty tone, though stopped stepping back once she heard the second part. "Y-Yeah?" She said back, clearly unconfident.

The albino sighed, righting herself but pulling up her hood, grimacing from the little bit of the sun's rays that had beat down on her head. Stupid sun. Arty looked at Valerie, "...despite the fact that we literally bumped into one another as a first greeting, I suppose we should introduce ourselves since we're part of the same group." I haven't spoken to as many of our number as I should have.

"Artemis. Tactician and mage of Floribar, you are?" She held out her gloved hand.

When Artemis seemed to no longer be as hostile as she first appeared to be, Valerie eased up and stopped looking so worried. The sword fighter listened as the mage introduced herself. When there was an ample opening to speak back, Valerie gave Artemis a gentle hand shake and said back "Valerie, Sword Fighter militant from Barentia."

Artemis firmly shook Valerie's hand before letting go. "A pleasure to meet you, Valerie. My...apologies for the initial hostility." Artemis glanced back at the fallen chocolate-covered strawberry with a sad look before looking back at the sword fighter. "Chocolate sweets are rare outside of this region and I really do so hate waste of any kind."(edited)

As Valerie was about to speak up, the sailor came back around and said to her "Uh, ma'am, sorry fer bumpin' inta ya." He said in apology before going swiftly back to the docks again because his supervisor made him apologize. After that, Valerie looked back to Artemis and said "Really? I might have to get some, though i've never been big on sweets..."

Artemis' red eyes tracked the sailor's approach and leave before looking back at Valerie when she made her comment, "Oh? I suggest it. I've only been to this region once before but the taste stayed with me. As long as we're in the region, might as well try what there is to offer. Chocolate goes on various things so you don't have to eat it straight."

Valerie shrugged to that comment. "We'll see." Was all she said to Artemis' comment about what chocolate could go on. She really wasn't that great at conversations on first meetings, which was no clearer here than when she wasn't really able to find anything else to say.

"...I could show you the vendor where I bought these?" She showed her bag of chocolate-covered strawberries. Be friendly, you can't do your job without being nice to your fellows.

When offered that kind of deal, Valerie nodded and said "Uh, okay." She was just kind of going along with it at this point because it seemed easier than finding a way out of it.

Artemis responded with a tight, small smile. She turned, result in nothing but the back of her hood and cloak being visible, "So may I ask what you were doing until now? Port Amaron has a lot places to visit."

"Uh... participating in the arena." Valerie spoke back to Artemis with. It wasn't quite obvious on the outside, but on the inside, she was pretty darn pooped, but didn't say anything.

"Oh? I was there earlier myself. Ended up losing one of my fights but two out of three is a decent enough track record if I do say so myself." Artemis started backtracking towards the vendor she'd been at earlier. She didn't any exhaustion from Valerie, what with her back turned and inwardly, the youngest Sorine was panicking, attempting to remember how to small talk.

Valerie's wasn't good at idle conversation right now either. Just about the only thing she thought of that they could even talk about was "Who did you fight? All on my two were 1-match deals."

"I had two one-match deals...but the match I lost was actually against one of the other members of our group. A troubadour, I think? I missed one of my spells and lost the last round of our three rounds but even so, she healed me right after." Artemis shrugged off the lost, not feeling all too broken up about it, content in knowing how powerful some other members of the group were. "Ended up making back my lost gold anyways against a poor guy who missed with his bow every time."

Valerie nodded. "Color me impressed. Yuo did more there and don't seem exhausted in the slightest." She responded back while she was feeling tired after only two matches. "Don't know how she did it... might be the less physical strain of using magic... I think." She thought.

"I've used magic for a few years now." Artemis shrugged off, not really seeing why it was so much of a feat, "And part of that time was as a mercenary. Five fights really isn't much compared to some jobs I've taken."

Now thinking about it, Valerie thought of the last battle and how she didn't break a sweat. However, her arena time was almost immediately after the big battle because she somehow got out of it without so much as a scratch. "Fair point." Valerie responded, feeling a teeny bit stupid now about her previous compliment.

"Right. Either way, what else do you plan- oh, we're here!" Artemis cut herself off mid-sentence, seeing the pair arrive at the chocolate stand. "There are a few selections here, up to you if you want something though."

Valerie almost jumped at the sudden turn in talking that Artemis just did. With her attention now on the stall, Valerie got closer, examining everything that they had, taking a few moments to take everything in.

The chocolate stand had a decent variety of the dark colored sweet. Some bars but mainly fruit covered in chocolate. "I can't eat straight chocolate so I usually get it paired with fruit of some kind."

After a while of exaiming everything that they had in detail, Valerie stepped away from the counter. "Sorry, but none of these sweets stand out to me." with a small frown on her face. She was sorry for wasting Artemis' time for taking her all the way here. "But I can replace the strawberry I made you lose, if you want."

Artemis shook her head, holding up the bag, "I have the whole bag anyways. Sorry for wasting your time bringing you here when you said you were never big on sweets."

Valerie shrugged at that. "It's fine. You had no idea that nothing would interest me." She said back with a small smile. With one last glance to the stand, Valerie started to make her way back to the barracks. "Anyways, I was originally going to the barracks to relax a little, so..."

Artemis waved before turning and taking a deep breath, ...how do some people do it? It's just so much easier to give commands than socialize. Shaking the thoughts out of her head, Artemis headed for the Port Amaron library, hoping to peace and quiet in her books.
