Valerie was at the training grounds, practicing her techniques against a dummy. Her technique was almost like a dance, moving all around the dummy, take weaker strikes against it, and generally trying not to stay in the same spot or follow a set pattern with her movements. She prided her style on her dodging capabilities, and she needed to keep them sharp along with her sword skills. It was, obviously, a bigger workout than some of the simpler styles she took note of, but she wasn't really observing them in great details.
After a while of that, Valerie figured she had enough training, despite that her slashes were still feeling weak compared to the power she had seen done to other dummies after others were done.
"I swear, this is going to bite me so hard..." Valerie thought to herself as she drank some water to rehydrate and cool off.(edited)

Quira bounced rather than walked, letting her thoughts drift as she aimlessly meandered about the town. When she had finally snapped back from her dreamscape, the girl found herself at the entrance to the training grounds. She didn't have much else to do besides sing and dance about the castle grounds so she shrugged before walking in, finding it to be quite empty bar a single swordswoman, much to her dismay.
However, a fresh face was still a face she might encounter again, so Quira had decided to approach the training sword fighter, albeit with a bit less of a pep in her step and more of a friendly expression.
"Why hello there!" She greeted, raising her hand in order to give a small wave.
NethaEmerald-Last Sunday at 4:47 PM
Valerie was lost in her thoughts, trying to self-critique her own methods now. She needed to find a way to hit harder without losing any of the speed or grace she had. After much thoughts, she just groaned in frustration and gave up, slowly standing back up to get right back to it with the dummy.
However, before she could even get her sword drawn again, a voice broke her concentration. Her body turned to see a woman she hadn't seen before waving at her. Valerie gave a small, shy wave back before turning around back to the dummy, looking for a good first place to strike.
ColdToiletSeat-Last Sunday at 5:05 PM
This one seems a tad apprehensive, Quira thought, watching the woman barely acknowledge her before heading back to training, Or perhaps she's a bit busy? Who knows? One thing is for certain however, she will know my name.
"You seem to be hard at work , may I ask what you're working on?" She asked with a lilt as if to express genuine interest, slowly approaching the swordswoman before veering off to the side and taking a seat near where she was previously located. Quira bit her cheek, waiting for an answer as she crossed her legs before idly bouncing the one on top.
NethaEmerald-Last Sunday at 5:08 PM
Valerie started to go to town against the dummy again, aiming to make the hits harder without slowing her down... but she quickly found out that it wasn't going to be easy, is possible. She could feel herself slowing down while trying to hit harder, and that wasn't acceptable to her.
In a small break to re-assess herself, Valerie turned towards the other woman and said
"Trying to train to hit harder, but it's not working really well." Her tone of voice was clearly a little frustrated, though only at her own training and not anyone else.
ColdToiletSeat-Last Sunday at 5:43 PM
"I see that... I can also see that you're quite frustrated, I don't think training and frustration work together very well. Why don't you come over here and relax, y'know, help clear your mind and all that?" Quira offered, motioning for the exasperated woman to take a seat adjacent to her. "I know that it's hard for me to do things when I'm frustrated, having a talk with somebody always seems to help."
NethaEmerald-Last Sunday at 5:45 PM
Valerie look at the dummy when Quire was first talking, but as the other women kept speaking, the sword fighter's attention turned to the Pegasus knight now. She did have a point; bring frustrated wasn't the best thing to be while attempting to train.
"Guess you have a point." Valerie admitted as she came over to the spot that Quire had pointed out.
ColdToiletSeat-Last Sunday at 5:58 PM
"Wonderful!" Quira grinned, closing her eyes as she rapped her fingers against each other, holding them in place until the woman had taken a seat near her. Upon hearing the sword-wielder finally take her seat, she opened her eyes and steepled her fingers, the smile being the only thing that had yet to change.
"...So, allow me to introduce myself." Quira spoke, not giving the other woman a choice in the matter before separating her hands, placing one on her hip and the other pridefully in the middle of her chest with pointed fingers. "I am Quira Halvinnia, one of the soon-to-be legendary heroes in Prince Phineas's cadre."(edited)
NethaEmerald-Last Sunday at 6:02 PM
"This woman... something tells me she's going to be prideful and stubborn..." Valreie thought to herself during the entire introduction.
Valerie spoke up when Quira was done and gave a simple "My name's Valerie." as she offered a hand in the form of a handshake. She never really treated any loyalty other than Finn and Erik any differently. If this would upset Quira, then Valerie wouldn't hold herself 100% responsible.
ColdToiletSeat-Last Sunday at 6:17 PM
Quira paused for a second, holding her pose with her chin pridefully stuck in the air and her eyes closed until her conversation partner spoke up, introducing themselves and sticking out their hand. She opened one of her eyes to acknowledge Valerie with a nod, taking on a more relaxed stance before graciously accepting the woman's hand.
"It's a pleasure to meet you, Valerie, are you also going to be joining Prince Phineas's righteous cause?" She asked, shaking the other woman's hand while maintaining stern eye contact.
NethaEmerald-Last Sunday at 6:23 PM
Valerie was... confused? She knew of a Finn, yes, but not a Phineas. It actually took her a few moments to piece together than to say Phineas, you need to use Finn in there. Regardless, she still wasn't completely sure if they were referring to who she thought they were.
Valerie decided that she ought to reply, so she responded with "Prince Finn's cause." Clearly she didn't know his more official name because she never heard him called as such.
Her youth was too busy working to dwell on the affairs of other countries much until this big shake-up happened with Finn's homeland, but that was because everyone was talking about it.
ColdToiletSeat-Last Sunday at 6:27 PM
"Ah, er, yes, Prince Finn's cause." Quira responded, her voice taking a decrescendo into lifelessness. "I had heard word that he fights for a noble cause, and I'm one of the few that will be joining him. And if my assumptions are correct, you will also be joining him?"
NethaEmerald-Last Sunday at 6:30 PM
It was obvious that the words Valerie was using got this woman down, but it was her fault for letting such little things get her all depressed, though Valerie did want to try and improve her disposition.
"Well, of course I am; it's the reason I made the choices I did..."
ColdToiletSeat-Last Sunday at 6:42 PM
"Wonderful!" Quira exclaimed once more, her voice as excited as when she had introduced herself just a moment ago. With stars in her eyes, she leaned over, placing a hand on Valerie's furthermost shoulder in order to bring the two of them closer before extending her other arm to slowly wave an open hand through the air. "I cannot wait to hear the stories they will tell of our group when we all emerge victorious! We will become legends amongst the men and women of the land!"
One could almost feel the excitement radiating off of the girl as she fantasized about the possible future.
"Does it not excite you? The allure of glory, the satisfaction of serving such a righteous cause!"
NethaEmerald-Last Sunday at 6:48 PM
Valerie was very blunt with her response, saying
"I'm not here for glory or fame. I'm here to help protect my homeland by joining to beat the common enemy. I'm here because it's the right thing to do."
Quira's goals, while different, were understandable to Valerie. Some just wanted to be known and to make a name for themselves.
ColdToiletSeat-Last Sunday at 7:28 PM
"Ah, I see, protecting those of which you care about, an equally noble cause!" Quira responded, clenching the once open fist and bringing it close to herself. "I am more than willing to respect that, after all, different heroes go down in history for different reasons. Who would I be to intrude upon that?"
She unclasped her hand from the woman's shoulder, leaning back to her original position.
"I can see the passion in you, Valerie, it is as intense as the great pyre for which our enemies shall burn! I'm looking forward to working with you in the days that are to come. Now then, would you like to try again with the sword swinging?"
NethaEmerald-Last Sunday at 8:10 PM
Valerie just nodded along with everything Quira said. It seemed they were understanding of each others reasons, which meant they shouldn't be butting heads about anything like that anymore. However, when Quira pipped up for Valerie to try her sword practice again, the sword fighter simply nodded and got up, saying
"Can't really hurt."
When she got to the dummy, she drew her blade and did the same as before. Her movement were quicker than last time with her forceful swings, but she still wasn't at the speed she wanted to be there. Maybe strength wasn't going to be a point in her battling.
ColdToiletSeat-Last Sunday at 8:19 PM
Quira kept quiet, for once in her life, pursing her lips as Valerie got back up and began quickly hacking at the unfortunate straw-man. She watched on with a great deal of enthusiasm, crossing her legs and twiddling her thumbs, hoping that her talk with the swordswoman had given substantial aid in her plight.(edited)
NethaEmerald-Last Sunday at 8:20 PM
After a small bit, Valerie gave up on trying to add more force and strength behind her swings and went back to her original system, finding the results at least more acceptable than her last attempt. She wasn't going to force herself to change her style over something like that when she was kind of effective enough?
ColdToiletSeat-Last Sunday at 8:27 PM
Quira noticed a distinct difference in technique when the woman had gone in for another round of swings, this time it was more controlled and more accurate to what she could assume were vital areas in her artificial enemy. She continued spectating with bated breath, she wondered if her words had some modicum of impact on Valerie as she watched the sword fighter continue hacking and slashing at the dummy.
NethaEmerald-Last Sunday at 8:28 PM
When Valerie took a break, she looked over to Quira, who seemed to be awed by it a little, and spoke back with
"I'm just going to stick to what I know so i'm not frustrated. Might be weaker, but it's my best option."
ColdToiletSeat-Last Sunday at 8:36 PM
"Well, that seems fair." Quira responded, giving Valerie an assuring nod before standing herself back up, placing her hands on her hips and smiling at the sword fighter. "It makes me overjoyed to know that a fellow comrade-in-arms has solved their problem with my help."(edited)
NethaEmerald-Last Sunday at 8:37 PM
"Not solved as much as realized what I need to focus on."
Valerie responded, not intending to come off as mean or cold with that comment. With that, Valerie had stopped swinging against the dummy and was done for the day.
"Now, if you don't mind, I think i'm done for the day."
ColdToiletSeat-Last Sunday at 8:42 PM
"Well, I'll be willing to take any victories I can get." Quira remarked, grinning as she stood there with triumph filling her pose.
"I don't mind at all, glad I could help. I have to get going as well, I've been meaning to give my pegasus a proper grooming and now is as good a time as ever!" Quira answered, giving a small wave before pivoting on one of her heels towards the exit and promptly leaving. Hah hah! I did it, I'm making my name known to the populace, one step at a time!
